Employer’s Rights – Employers are free to decide who they want to hire or not hire. Often there are concerns about hiring individuals with a criminal records because of potential problems for their business or other employees. The concerns may include theft, violence, or other criminal behavior. Certain jobs, like ones in finance or law enforcement, have strict guidelines regarding the hiring of people with certain criminal convictions.Not all employers have the same policies relating to hiring people with criminal records. Some may be more open to offering second chances to those with a criminal records, especially if they are qualified. They may even be willing to overlook certain types of convictions or how long ago the crime happened. It really depends on the company’s policies and the specific details of the person’s criminal record. There are employers who hire felons.
Many people believe that hiring people with criminal records is good for society in general. When felons get jobs, they become positive members of communities as well as taxpayers. Getting jobs may significantly reduce rates of recidivism and increased burden on society.
