Can I get jobs with a juvenile record?

 

Hello, saw this on the internet and I was hoping for some advice on how to get a job. I am about to be 18 years old. I committed a felony when I was 16. I ended up having one only one year of probation that is it. I had to pay a restitution of 200 dollars and had counseling. I finished the counseling and I was let out of my probation early. I am about to enter college and I am scared that this felony will haunt me forever. Is there any hope for me in the future for a job? I have been applying at jobs and I never hear anything from them, and it frustrating. Please if you could help, it would be appreciated.

Juvenile records do not automatically disappear. In most cases, a juvenile record is sealed by the court. When a case is “sealed” it can only be examined by order of the court.

Once a record has been sealed it is not gone, but it will only be visible to law enforcement, government agencies and the courts. Since the record will always be visible to government entities, it may impact your eligibility for civil service jobs or jobs that require a license or certification.

In some states, a juvenile record is automatically sealed. You can find out if your juvenile record was automatically sealed or if you have to apply to have it sealed. An attorney can help you with this. Never attempt any legal process by yourself. Seek assistance from a qualified legal professional that has experience with this process. You may be able to get free legal advice regarding this at your local legal aid office.
