Do I have to put misdemeanors on applications?

by Adogzheart on November 3, 2009

Q:

I have two misdemeanors on my record. Do I have to put them on applications?

A:

Generally misdemeanors are offenses that have sentences of less than one year and usually served in the county jail or simply have probation periods. Felonies typically have sentences of more than a year and are served in state prison.

Typically applications will ask about convictions of crimes and/or felonies and not misdemeanors. If you are unsure about the type of convictions you have, you should obtain a copy of your record. Of course all applications are not the same. If the application asks for misdemeanors, you must include them. Jobs for felons and ex-offenders will depend on the proper completion of employment applications.

I hope this helps
